When it comes to concerns about being hacked, smart bulbs are pretty low risk. Feit doesn’t offer two-factor authentication (2FA), a common security process that requires you to input a verification code when you log in to the app. And, even more confusingly, if you want to schedule an animation, the only way for it to work is if the animation was the last setting used before the bulb was turned off-you can’t simply tell the animation to happen at any time when the bulb turns on. Instead, to do either of those things, you have to create an automation, which you access from the main screen, under Smart Scenes. However, you can’t simply choose on or off, and you can’t pick a specific color and/or dimming level. For instance, when you click on Schedule, you can choose times for a bulb to go on and off. The Feit app can be confusing, and it has odd roadblocks. ![]() We also paired lights with these platforms to trigger lights with other smart devices (such as security cameras). Everything we tested can pair with some type of voice assistant, such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Siri, so you can operate it by voice. We also set up Schedules and tested any other features. We used iPhone and Android devices to look at the app controls, to see how easy it was to set up and control the lighting devices, when you’re at home as well as away. (For suggestions, check out our guide to Wi-Fi routers and our guide to Wi-Fi extenders.) If you have problems getting good Wi-Fi outdoors, consider upgrading your router or adding an extender or repeater. Since all of these products are designed to go outdoors, we tested a variety of spots outside of our home to determine how well they stayed connected to Wi-Fi. For bulbs, we used a light meter to measure lux (or the amount of light that spreads in a given area), working with the same equipment, under the same conditions, at various angles and dimming levels. We also compared Color Rendering Index (CRI) ratings, when available, to judge color accuracy. We looked at specs for lumens, which is a measure of light output.

I’ve definitely sent errant chunks of flaming banana out of the pan a couple of times like rogue fruit meteors. One order and the entire restaurant goes up in flames. Someone at the table will also invariably ask, “Have you ever burned anyone before?” (Thankfully, I have not - but I’ve definitely sent errant chunks of flaming banana out of the pan a couple of times like rogue fruit meteors, causing momentary bouts of panic and a few singed linens.) Every time a pan spiked with sugar and alcohol combusts, flambé sales go viral. But a restaurant flambé requires additional time to allow the person who orders it to overshare about the one other time they ordered a flambé at a Michelin-starred restaurant in the south of France. Today, the tableside flambé is having a renaissance in many upscale restaurants, but for a different reason: It makes great content.Ī perfectly executed Bananas Foster takes about three to four minutes to prepare. (Brennan’s in New Orleans, where Bananas Foster was invented, has been preparing the dessert continuously for decades since Chef Paul Blangé created the recipe in 1951.)Īlthough flambé cooking originated in the mid-19th century, French chef Auguste Escoffier popularized the technique when he presented Queen Victoria with cherries jubilee - cherries flambéed in kirschwasser, or cherry brandy - in 1897 to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee. The Grill’s sister restaurant, Carbone, which helped re-popularize made-to-order Caesar salads and mobile dessert carts, deserves most of the credit for hastening the revival of tableside service, at least the trendy variety. The palatial, Phillip Johnson-designed dining room screams go-big-or-go-home, and the staff is rigorously trained to ensure that you do go big and also go home with less money in your wallet than when you arrived. Scenes like this were not uncommon during the three years I worked as a captain at the Grill in midtown Manhattan - a midcentury chophouse in the former Four Seasons Restaurant space where tableside theatrics and culinary sleight of hand are calculated distractions. ![]() “Oh my God, I hate bananas,” she says, turning toward her tablemates, “but we should totally order it anyway!” They haven’t even finished their appetizers. I’m tempted to lie and tell her we just sold out, but instead I explain the Bananas Foster - caramelized bananas flamed with dark rum over house-made banana-buttermilk ice cream - the restaurant’s most popular dessert. “What’s that thing with the fire?” a woman from the table behind me asks, tugging on the vents of my tuxedo jacket and gesturing toward the dessert I just finished flambéing. TCD was initially introduced for detecting the vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage. The PMD or M-mode Doppler had the advantage of simultaneously displaying the intensity and direction of intracranial blood flow with over 6 cm or more of intracranial space, which simplified the examination technique. Mark Moehring, in 2002, invented the transcranial power-motion mode Doppler (PMD) with 33 sampling gates. It was a single gate spectral TCD system that required considerable expertise to obtain flow signals from intracranial vessels. Rune Aaslid, in 1982, introduced the transcranial Doppler (TCD) for detecting blood flow in the basal intracerebral arteries. This article describes the basic ultrasound physics pertaining to TCD insonation methods, for detecting the flow in intracranial vessels in addition to the normal and abnormal spectral flow patterns. Advanced applications of TCD help in the detection of right-to-left shunts, vasomotor reactivity, diagnosis, and monitoring of vasospasm in subarachnoid hemorrhage and as a supplementary test for confirmation of brain death. TCD is a noninvasive, cost-effective, and bedside tool for obtaining information regarding the collateral flow across various branches of the circle of Willis in patients with cerebrovascular disorders. Currently, TCD is the only diagnostic tool that can provide real time information about cerebral hemodynamics and can detect embolization to the cerebral vessels. During evaluation of patients with acute ischemic stroke, TCD combined with cervical duplex ultrasonography provides physiological information on the cerebral hemodynamics, which is often complementary to structural imaging. Since its introduction in 1982, by Rune Aaslid, TCD has evolved as a diagnostic, monitoring, and therapeutic tool. ![]() Transcranial Doppler (TCD) can be aptly called as the doctor’s stethoscope of the brain. ![]() ![]() ![]() This may be because the diet is high in fibre and nutrient dense, although further studies are needed to ascertain the exact mechanism. On the morning of March 31, Rockne and seven other men flew out of the Kansas City Municipal Airport aboard Transcontinental & Western Airlines flight 5. However, it still found a place in early commercial aviation. Navy tested the F-10A, found it unstable and rejected it. When Fokker set up shop in the United States, his F-10 tri-motor plane drew the attention of government officials they were concerned about not being able to inspect the internal structure of the wings because it would involve removing the plywood covering and damaging the craft. Aviation pioneers and stunt pilots straddled the line between testing the limits of the new technology … and death. Rockne knew that the rapid development of air travel in the 1920s had been fraught with danger and conflict. On the evening of March 30, he stopped at his mother’s place in Logan Square to help celebrate her birthday, then boarded a night train for Kansas City. How to take a screenshot on a Chrome OS tablet Meanwhile, region screenshots allow you to click and drag to select exactly what you want to capture. Single-window screenshots allow you to click on a window and capture only its contents, ignoring everything else on screen. If you’re looking for something more precise, though, there are two other handy kinds of screenshots available. The most basic kind is a full display screenshot that simply captures everything on your Chromebook’s screen - or screens - and saves it. Because of this great variety, Google has had to develop many ways for Chrome OS devices to take screenshots.Īdditionally, Chrome OS has three different types of screenshots that it can take. Over the years, Chrome OS devices have taken on many different shapes and sizes, with Chromebooks, Chrome OS tablets (sometimes awkwardly called “Chromblets”), and desktop machines like Chromeboxes and Chromebases. That said, the way to take screenshots on your Chromebook or Chrome OS tablet isn’t exactly obvious, so here’s a quick how-to. As for where exactly the captured screenshot is saved, Chrome OS automatically saves captured screenshots in the Downloads folder. In the age of smartphones, screenshots have become an essential way to quickly share, as they allow others to see exactly what you’re seeing. This makes it easier to share your screenshot since many websites or apps support pasting images from the clipboard to upload or send them. Like you do on Android, you also get a notification on Chrome OS whenever you take a screenshot but with an option to COPY TO CLIPBOARD. To take a screenshot, you just have press and hold the Power button and the Volume down button together. Well, Chrome OS doesn’t only support Android apps but it also supports the native screenshot key combination used on Android smartphones and tablets. A tablet or a convertible that has been folded into tablet mode doesn’t really have an accessible hardware keyboard. If you’re using a Chromium OS build or a fork of it on a Windows laptop, and trust me, there are many advantages of doing so, you won’t find the Show windows key on your keyboard. Therefore, it already has built-in functionality to make it easier to take screenshots on Chromebook. Chrome OS is relatively new though and it was born in the modern world. Microsoft has also been trying to rework the outdated screenshot tools in Windows. Apple introduced related features in its operating systems recently and Google followed suit with the screenshot markup tool in Android Pie. We’ve seen all the three major OS companies get really serious about screenshots. Any modern operating system must make it easier for users to not only take screenshots but also annotate and share them. Maybe you just want to show your amazing desktop set up on that new geeky forum or just show something on your screen to your friend.
